Photo Report The Watches And Looks Of Pitti Uomo Summer 2023

When menswear acolytes take to the streets of Florence, they don't leave their watches at home.

If there is a place to be this summer, it's Italy, and if there is a place for style spotting, it's the bi-annual men's fashion tradeshow Pitti Uomo, which had its 104th edition this past June. Pitti brings thousands of the world's best designers, fashion buyers, and tailors into the city of Florence for four glorious days of commerce, creativity, and, naturally, amazing watch-spotting.

The choices this year might surprise you. Moonswatch was everywhere, in all variations, championed by everyone from aspirational youths to serious and security-minded collectors – and many a local, too. On the other side of the scale from the plastic Swatch, vintage gold seemed to be another favorite, particularly for Rolex. Worn with every kind of suit and plenty of streetwear too, these proved to be a surprisingly versatile watch. Smaller rectangular watches, old and new, from Cartier Tank to Reverso, were another popular choice, especially among the tradeshow's tailors.

No watch, but it can be a lot of fun to look at an outfit and wonder – what kind of watch WOULD work with this look? In this case, I think a Cartier Crash.
