Watch Spotting Tom Brady Wearing The Rolex 'Jigsaw' 'Emoji' Day-Date At A Birmingham City Football Game

Rolex's Emoji watch continues to slowly infiltrate the celebrity buyer market as Brady now spotted second to John Mayer last week.

Tom Brady crossed the pond over the weekend to attend a Birmingham City football club match. Words I never thought I would hear, let alone write down.

If you aren't an English child of the '90s – who grew up in a football-mad household – like myself you might not quite understand the cultural implications of "Birmingham City FC." But this minority ownership purchase signals a potential new wave of Premier League action for the upcoming season that just started. And while Brady's purchase of the second division team isn't the most exciting news for non-soccer (I'm sorry mum) fans, he wouldn't be alone in this endeavor I am calling "notable Americans buying up football clubs of various sizes, value and division" (see Michael B Jordan buying Bournemouth already in the Premier League but a less storied team and Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney buying Wrexham which is fourth division so I mean who knows what their plans are there).

Alas, I am not a sports writer and I have lived away from home and in the US for 10 years so my focus was on Tom Brady's wrist.

Spotted wearing an off-menu Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36 in Rolex Everose gold at the Birmingham City vs Leeds United match on Saturday – better known in the watch world as the "Emoji" or "Jigsaw" watch, it's the timepiece that has everybody wondering if there's something in the water at Rolex HQ. I myself was quite partial to the watch when it was first presented at Watches & Wonders earlier this year, though I think I'd opt for yellow or white gold (like John Mayer duh!). Brady purchased the Everose "Emoji" watch from @polachecksjewelers in Calabasas CA.

In place of the day, which usually lives inside the arc-shaped aperture at 12 o'clock, there is a disc that includes seven inspirational words: "Happy," "Eternity," "Gratitude," "Peace," "Faith," "Love" and "Hope." The date window at three o'clock, which is historically known to display the date now reveals one of 31 emojis. These include a kissy face, a four-leaf clover, an eight ball, a heart, a peace sign, and the Rolex coronet.

The watch is available in white gold and yellow gold with turquoise as the dial base color, or in Everose with an orange base color (like Brady's). Both dials include a multicolor jigsaw motif. There are 10 rainbow baguette-cut sapphire indices which match the jigsaw. And all are, of course, fitted on a President bracelet.
