This unusual aged tea hails from Jieyang, Guangdong, where it is a form of folk medicine. A pomelo is a large Chinese citrus fruit, similar to a grapefruit but with less bitterness. The fruit is hollowed out and the skin is filled with Eight Immortals Dan Cong oolong, wrapped with wire and twisted to press it tight, before being smoked and aged - sometimes for decades. The wrapping and pressing of the fruit gives it its characteristic "pumpkin" appearance. It is prepared by chiseling a chunk of tea and rind off and steeping it or boiling it. The tea and rind are prepared together, with a thumbprint-sized piece of the rind included with a 7-gram dosage of tea. The resulting tea is dark and rich, with a distinct citrus character and a deep, strong Qi.

Surprised and delighted
Nostalgia bomb! I can't place the memory that this tea invokes... almost like drinking deja vu... From the very start I am surprised by the light color and heavy flavor of the liquor ✨️ ? Pipe tobacco, earth, and citrus This is my first oolong and I'm afraid the bar is set too high for anything to follow ?

Citrus delight
I love the combo of the roasted oolong and aged pomelo peel - tangy with a treacly undercurrent. It reminds me of my beloved Haunted Plum oolong! (R.I.P.) I don't know much about Chinese medicine but as soon as I started drinking this tea, I felt my lungs begin to clear and I could breathe easier. This was a welcome surprise as I have been suffering with hay fever for several weeks. Clearly I need to add chen pi into my spring herb arsenal ? Thanks WCT for bringing us another fantastic brew!
