Flood relief for Kym and Sarah

Donation protected
Wives and business partners, Kym and Sarah have lost their business, Flock Espresso and Eats, their new home and all their worldly possessions in the Lismore flood. Kym and Sarah managed to get themselves and their dogs out before they were hit but with only a few toiletries and a basket of clothes in their car. This fundraiser is to help them get back on their feet as soon as possible and any assistance is appreciated.

The past 2 years have been extremely tough for hospitality businesses across Australia. Kym and Sarah have experienced droughts, bush fires, seating limitations, lock downs and supply inflation creating a very stressful time. This is not a great opportunity to build a nest egg.

Anyone that has owned their own business knows that paying your own wage comes last. It is no different for Kym and Sarah. Their cafe will be unable to operate for the foreseeable future which means they have no money coming in but a mortgage to pay and business over heads that are still due along with a very large clean-up bill.

Kym and Sarah are known for being active members of the Lismore community, offering support to anyone, wherever they can. This is just the way they are wired, everything they do is for others. A great example came the day after the flood peak when they prioritised getting supplies for their local evacuation centre over food and clothing for themselves.

Kym and Sarah went through something similar just 5 years ago when they lost their first Lismore café to the 2017 floods. This resulted in them moving Flock to the current location. This location was chosen as it had a second level to store equipment and stock should a flood occur. They also purchased fridges with engines on top and furniture that was light in preparation of any flooding. Little did they know that the flood waters would come back even higher, rising to the second level and that nothing would be safe- not even Kym’s own recipe book she has created over the past 20 years.

As their brother in-law I am stepping in to ask for help on their behalf as they do not have the capacity to ask for themselves. It is time for us to put them first and make sure they can get through this horrendous experience.

Thank you for any donation as it is a step towards taking a mental load off in this unimaginable experience. Your funds will go toward food, clothing, temporary accommodation, and replacement of the bare necessities of living that were unable to be recovered.
