Robbie Weir, a local sports nutritionist & transformation coach began his journey into the personal training industry after he left the army and has never looked back.

He has been a PT for the last few years, does group classes and online training packages & believes that having the right space to create your home gym & looking after your mental health, comes with many long-term benefits.

We sat down to chat with Robbie Weir about everything health, mindfulness, and home gyms! With many people becoming more conscious of their mental & physical health, we thought it would be appropriate to chat with our VERVE resident Robbie.

Mental health month happens in June and it’s another reason to highlight those men need to take preventative measures to keep healthy, understand that being human and sometimes vulnerable is not a sign of weakness and that mental health is equally as important as physical health.

What are your top 5 tips for keeping your mind, body & soul healthy?

First, I make sure I am fuelled efficiently. Then I make sure I am grounded by taking time each day to breathe, be present and live in the moment. Finding this balance keeps me energised and fuels me to exercise daily. It's vitally important to keep these 3 things in check to work harmoniously.

Fuel your body correctly and eat your daily calorie maintenance, incorporating 3 servings of veggies, 2 servings of fruit and 1.4g-2g of protein per kg of body.

Meditate daily.  Take 5-10 minutes to breathe and tune it. Switch off from everything and everyone and focus on you.

Move more! Exercise once a day with the intention of caring for the future of your health. NOT TO LOSE FAT!

Read something educational. There’s always room for improvement and more to learn.

Get off your phone and be present! When you’re working, you’re working? When you're eating dinner with the family, you're eating dinner with the family.

When you’re playing with your kids, you're playing with your kids. When you get time to yourself, work on yourself! Stop scrolling and be present.

What are your top tips for a home gym setup?

When it comes to creating a space to work out, there are a few things to consider

Firstly, the size of the allocated space & how this will work with your fitness routine.

Having the right equipment and space layout will ensure that you can move around freely, do your exercises, and maintain a nice flow through your gym space.

And lastly keeping the gym set up simple. Simple and functional, to get the most out of your space.

If you don't like to train at home and prefer sweating it out at your local gym or hitting the road to find your pace- whatever your choice, moving daily will benefit your current & future self.

Choose to be more mindful and find the time to meditate daily. It will give you a sense of calm and balance that will provide long-lasting and benefits for emotional well-being & improve your overall health.

Life is short and so precious, so look after your mind, body & soul with these tips so you can live a long, happy, and stress-free life.
