Riviera 72 SMY

The biggest hull in Riviera's popular Sports Motor Yacht range gets updated and refined.

Riviera's 72 SMY is the top-end of their Sport Motor Yacht line, and is, for many, the ultimate in luxury bluewater cruising. Now, a new iteration of this long-range yacht has been further refined for greater voyaging capabilities; it offers further range, higher speed, improved accommodation for guests and crew, and some engineering enhancements in line with the latest technology.

The 72 SMY is renowned for its long-range voyaging capabilities, thanks to its rigorously tank-tested hull and shaftdrive powertrain. Its Seatorque shaft system — an enclosed, oil lubricated shaft and bearing assembly — delivers eight per cent more horsepower, less drag, increased prop efficiency and even reduced noise and vibration.

But the appeal doesn't stop there! The huge sporting cockpit at the rear provides a perfect platform on which to install a game fishing chair, or can be set up for water-level entertaining with a table and barbecue. Just up from there is the mezzanine, which has a fold-down TV, bar and easy access to the galley. And above that is the flybridge deck and helm, a perfect place from which to execute the game-fishing manoeuvres.

All this talk of decks and we'd be remiss not to mention the foredeck, a wonderfully versatile space that can be equipped with fold out lounges to create another alfresco entertaining area. It can also be used to store a tender, along with davit and winch.

The galley is located at the rear of the saloon, making it a central feature of the main deck level, which highlights a strong focus on entertaining. Forward of the galley is an open lounge area, split by a stairway that leads down to the accommodation level. Throughout the saloon, and the interior as a whole, all of the fitting, furnishings and décor are expertly crafted from some of the finest materials available.

Accommodation can be set up in either 'presidential' or 'classic' configurations, depending on the owner's preference. The presidential layout focusses on a full beam master suite, alongside two other staterooms, each with its own bathroom. The classic option compresses the master suite to make way for an additional guest bedroom with two bunks. Both layouts have the option of a small crew cabin or utility room.

As far as all the running gear and gadgetry is concerned, Riviera stick with the latest offerings from the most reputable manufacturers. From the sleek glass helm displays to the CZone switching, it's all designed to improve the onboard experience.
